Starting the new week with some fresh new music (from each and every aspect you wanna look at it). Assalm (meaning whale) had his debut LP released on JST Records a month ago and since then the French artist always seems to find his way on our playlists one way or the other. Something that becomes easier of course by the fact that Assalm‘s music is diverse, fresh and combines elements from a number of different music styles/genres. “Rivera” LP, which comes with 9 original songs, is a very unique and rare mix of (dark) Electronica, Techno, Trap and even Darkwave/Darksynth (i.e. “Cavalry”). But Assalm‘s debut is more than a just melting pot of different influences. Well thought of and nicely put together, these elements come together in a way that makes “Rivera” one of those Continue reading »

UK based artist Occams Laser returns on Metalectro once more with his most recent EP “Flagellation” and well, all Synthwave / Dark Synth fans should be getting quite used to hearing his music and seeing his name around by now as he continues to constantly deliver new music. “Flagellation” was out last November including 6 new original songs and adds another chapter on the artist’s ongoing exploration of dark religious themes and concepts. Well, not that we are big on any kind, sort or type of religion here but we can certainly appreciate artists who have a concept and develop a story through their music, something that Occams Laser has been doing very succesfully. From the artworks to the themes and of course the music itself which creates the perfect atmosphere for the artist to develop a narrative, Continue reading »

Continuing our exploration of the deep dark cyberspace with an EP by an artist who only recently came into our attention but we’re getting to love more and more on a daily basis. A Synthwave / Cyberpunk visionary, Powercyan‘s “Cybernation” EP was (self) released back in September and is combining all those retrofuturistic elements we love with dark and gritty cyberpunk aesthetics and even spices them up with some rock/metal guitars as you can hear on tracks like “Law Of One” (big favorite over here) or “Cybernation”. Of course, even though Powercyan prefers to usually stay on the darker side of Synthwave and not move towards a more Synthpop direction, his influences vary quite a bit and even include more Continue reading »

Argentina’s Donbor might not be one of the biggest or most wellknown Synthwave/Electronica artists out there but then again those of you following this space should be well aware we couldn’t care less how wellknown an artist is or how many followers he can boast about having on their social media. What we’ve always cared about though and has always been the decisive factor on whether we share someone’s music or not is the actual music itself and Donbor has most definitely passed that test a while back with his track “Smoke”. Now, finally “Smoke” has an equally great sibling with “Against The Law” which is the Argentinian artist’s latest original. Characteristic Donbor sound and style that you will instantly recognise if you’ve heard and loved “Smoke” as much as we did. Both tracks are available for free on the artists’ Bandcamp on his “Dead City” EP (available for free alongside 2 more tracks) and we highly recommend snatching both of them. Continue reading »

Frenchman and long time Electro House/Complextro producer M.A.D.E.S has returned with a new split EP, together with Spanish trio Knightbots who debut both on here and on JST Records. “Awakening” is the title of the EP and M.A.D.E.S‘ new original and if the Outrun, Synthwave and 80’s/retro influences were present in the French artist’s previous works this time he has gone full “retro” and left behind the more Electro House/Complextro sound he was previously known for. Great atmosphere, flow and sound on “Awakening” which stays slightly on a more Dark Synth side. The second track on this split EP by Knightbots combines 80’s mood with a hard French Touch/Electro sound (reminiscent of older Justice, sebastiAn and of course Dizkodeath) . A nice overall EP which definitely serves as nice follow up to M.A.D.E.S‘ “Return” EP and taking the French artist towards a new Syntwave sound and nice debut for Knightbots as well so check this one out.
