Taking a closer and more careful look of course we realised the Czech Republic producer wasn’t as “new” as we initially thought. Formerly know as Atrey, the artist has gone through a complete transformation (this isn’t just a cheap and quick paintjob) and it’s definitely a very interesing one too. Released via Owl Vision‘s imprint Comorbid Records, “Gemini” is Andreas Rund‘s first EP under his new alias. Three original tracks moving somewhere between dark Electronica, House and even darker Techno with a clean, deep yet heavy sound this is definitely a debut that sets the bar pretty high for Andreas Rund and can be enjoyed both in a club with some early morning “burnout” sessions or at home. We will definitely be keeping an eye and ear out for Andreas Rund in the future but for now we’re just going to leave you check out his debut EP “Gemini”.

Review: Perturbator “Uncanny Valley” LP http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/24/review-perturbator-uncanny-valley-lp/ http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/24/review-perturbator-uncanny-valley-lp/#comments Tue, 24 May 2016 15:44:11 +0000 http://www.metalectro-music.com/?p=30806 [...]]]> When it comes to artists who constantly keep impressing with their work, whether it’s the music, videos or overall “packaging” of their music and presence, Perturbator has been at the very top (together with a few others) for a while now. The Frenchman isn’t only a frontrunner of the Dark Synthwave “neon apocalypse” we’ve been going through lately but one of those artists who have lead the assault for a while now. His fourth album “Uncanny Valey” was out on Blood Music a few weeks ago (and not in 2112 A.D as the rumours had it) and besides the impressive packaging (vinyls, CDs, bonus material and lots of cool artwork) which is guaranteed to earn some extra points it’s the actual music itself that makes it such a complete album.

13 original tracks which perfectly showcase Perturbator‘s maturity as a composer and his ability to tell a story through his albums, an art that is somewhat lost in the majority of today’s electronic music. From dark to melancholic, from mellow to filthy and from evil to aggressive, “Uncanny Valley” has all your audio needs covered whether you’re looking to turn off the lights and let it take you on a ride or looking to rage to some good ol’electronic bangers.

Maybe not the most well-polished album you’ve ever heard in terms of production but that’s not necessarily bad, especially since it works great with the overall concept and context of “Uncanny Valley”. A very fun album to listen to no doubt, this is definitely Perturbator‘s finest and most complete work up to date so do yourselves a favor and check it out.

Carpenter Brut – Turbo Killer (Official Video) http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/20/carpenter-brut-turbo-killer-official-video/ http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/20/carpenter-brut-turbo-killer-official-video/#comments Fri, 20 May 2016 11:26:34 +0000 http://www.metalectro-music.com/?p=30786 [...]]]> Turbo KillerCarpenter Brut is an artist whose name you should know by now and if not you have some serious homework and listening to do. It’s no secret we have loved his work here on Metalectro before his rise to Synthwave stardom as his music was always hard hard, cool, inspired and of a very high standard. And now he has equally great visuals (if not even greater) to go along with it too. The video for “Turbo Killer” (written and directed by Seth Ickerman) was out a few months ago and well, simply put is probably the most awesome and visually stunning video (music or not) we, you and everyone else have seen and will see in a while. In case you have somehow missed it until now we don’t want to spoil the fun and jawdropping action that comes with it so we’ll stop here. Fasten your seatbelts and enjoy!

Review: Mantis “Avidity” EP http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/19/review-mantis-avidity-ep/ http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/19/review-mantis-avidity-ep/#comments Thu, 19 May 2016 15:48:45 +0000 http://www.metalectro-music.com/?p=30780 [...]]]> It’s been a while since I posted anything by Mantis here (even before the much needed break I took from blogging) but the Atlanta boys are finally back as they had a new EP out about a month ago. Truth be told I find myself being very picky and generally speaking not impressed by most Dubstep that goes around these days as it all seems to boil down to high standard productions (nevermind the whole presets/samples argument) but less and less originality and well, feeling. This doesn’t seem to be the case with Mantis“Avidity” though as the boys didn’t hesitate to go hard, like they always did anyway since the beginning. The nice mix of Drum & Bass and heavy Dubstep (you might even wanna call it Metalstep or Deathstep if you’re into that sort of thing) and thankfully the absence of the classic Hybrid Trap track, “Back Again” comes as close to Hybrid Trap you’ll listen from Mantis on this EP (and that isn’t close enough), certainly earned “Avidity” quite a few extra points in my book. Add the well thought of track order which gives a nice flow and album feel instead of a “random tracks placed on the same release” feel and here we have it. A Dubstep release that isn’t as predictable as most Dubstep releases going around nowadays and definitely worth checking out.

Proxy – Mad Dog 10,000 (Official Video) http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/18/proxy-mad-dog-10000-official-video/ http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/18/proxy-mad-dog-10000-official-video/#comments Wed, 18 May 2016 16:02:18 +0000 http://www.metalectro-music.com/?p=30773 [...]]]> Spicing things up a bit today by throwing some audio-visual action into the mix and taking you a few months back. Russia’s Proxy is a name those of you into the dark and hard side of Electro and Techno should be well familiar with by now and frankly he shoudn’t need any introductions by now. And when he teams up with Sen Dog (of legendary rappers Cypress Hill) you know the result has to be some seriously badass and crazy tunage, which is the case with “Mad Dog 10,000″, out a few months ago on Sotto Voce. And if you’re thinking “this sounds familiar” it’s because you’ve probably already heard the instrumental version of the track which has been going around for a while already, titled “10,000”, one of Proxy’s most classic and one a personal favorite of mine. Now take that and add the top class rapping by Sen Dog (no surprise here) and a dark video that captures and translates perfectly the insane and intense atmosphere of the track and there you have it, it’s a “mad dog on the loose” indeed. So please do yourselves a favor and check this rabid piece out.

Review: Daniel Deluxe “Corruptor” LP http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/17/review-daniel-deluxe-corruptor-lp/ http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/17/review-daniel-deluxe-corruptor-lp/#comments Tue, 17 May 2016 15:49:36 +0000 http://www.metalectro-music.com/?p=30735 [...]]]> Trying to catch up with all the music I missed during the last months that the blog was in hibernation is a time consuming task, let me tell you. Not to complain though since I am a music junkie anyway so sitting and listening to (new) music isn’t all that bad, especially when it’s good music (or the kind of music i like to be more precise).

And while I’m going to be taking it slower and only post about releases which have that something special worth talking about, the music that does actually make it on here should be “food for the soul” – only more groovy, powerful and generally speaking awesome in one way or the other. And Daniel Deluxe‘s “Corruptor” LP just happens to tick all of those boxes.

12 original tracks and a super fine mix of Synthwave with heavier/harder Electro sounds and an even more “club” (maybe even slightly more Techno-ish?) feel at times. The catchy and memorable melodies, dark atmosphere and big fat beats certainly seem to be working together in perfect harmony, making Daniel Deluxe‘s “Corruptor” LP a release you can enjoy listening to both at home or in the club (although not all tracks would work equally good on a dancefloor probably). Definitely one to check out!

Review: Spor “Black Eyed” EP http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/16/review-spor-black-eyed-ep/ http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/16/review-spor-black-eyed-ep/#comments Mon, 16 May 2016 12:10:00 +0000 http://www.metalectro-music.com/?p=30753 [...]]]> Straight out of the oven and right into your speakers, here comes Spor (Feed Me’s Drum N Bass alter ego) with some fresh tunage, out on his own imprint Sotto Voce Records last Friday. And what better to start your Monday and new week than some much needed energy boost to get you going after the weekend? Available through Bittorent (as well as on pretty much every other platform) “Black Eyed” comes with 5 original tracks, a couple of them being collaborations – one with Icicle & Linguistics and one featuring Phace. For those of you familiar with Spor‘s previous work you should already have a pretty good idea what to expect from his new EP, which is nothing else than some deep (and occassionaly dark) Drum N Bass/Neuro.

Of course, personally speaking, I feel like “Black Eyed” EP struggles a bit to keep with the extremely high standard that Mr. Gooch set with his “Caligo” LP (which I found to be exceptionally good and one of the best albums we heard in 2015) but that doesn’t mean his new EP isn’t one to check out by any means. Highlight of the EP the closer “Figaro”, so hit play below and make sure you listen all the way to the end.

Weekend Bass #03 – Flesh & Blood (Friday 13th) http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/13/30744/ http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/13/30744/#comments Fri, 13 May 2016 17:42:13 +0000 http://www.metalectro-music.com/?p=30744 [...]]]> Weekend is coming so here’s a playlist to get the party started. And being Friday the 13th too I thought i’d keep it bloody and heavy. We hope you enjoy the selection (incl. tracks by Lektrique, Kroyclub, XKore, Laforcah, Le Castle Vania, Owl Vision, Father, 501, The Glitch Mob, I Think I Broke Something , Christine and Neosignal). You can also check the playlist on Soundcloud (here) although some of the tracks are only available as previews so Spotify is recommended for the full versions.

As for those of you following the blog from the early days you might remember the regular monthly mixtape series we used to have, which will be probably be replaced by regular playlists. As for the reason why the mixtapes won’t be coming back but will be replaced by these playlists, first we feel it’s more directly beneficial for the artists themselves, second obviously it’s less time consuming to only have to make the right track selection instead of having to do a mixtape with it and finally with the stricter copyright infrigement policies that are in place on Soundcloud nowadays it seems more appropriate.

Review: Owl Vision “Downlord” LP http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/12/review-owl-vision-downlord-lp/ http://www.metalectro-music.com/2016/05/12/review-owl-vision-downlord-lp/#comments Thu, 12 May 2016 14:18:38 +0000 http://www.metalectro-music.com/?p=30716 [...]]]> It’s no big secret, at least to those who have been following the more “undergound” Electronic music scene(s), that the rise of the super-commercialised “EDM” machine the last few years has lead into a “stalemate” kind of situation for many fans and artists alike. On one hand artists who are striving to make a living doing the thing they love understandably might want to follow trends and tendencies, while on the other hand the majority of fans (hopefully not those reading this blog though) are simply “consuming” what’s been given to them, therefore creating a high demand for rapid fire productions with more often than not the focus shifting to the quantity of music rather than the quality (and I don’t mean the production quality/standards).

As a consequence artists who might stand out for their originality, creativity and unique sound/style, or who simply are daring enough to try out something that doesn’t follow the “easy to digest” and “ready for consumption” recipe that’s acceptable by commercial standards are unfortunatelly left in the dark, often struggling to get their music heard. So, it really warms our cold black heart when someone like Owl Vision comes up with a new LP (his sixth studio album please).

Dark, melodic and groovy as ever, the Swedish artist is leading by example by finding the perfect balance between keeping his unique identity and characteristic sound which he has developed over the years, while at the same time managing to stay “fresh” throughout his 12 track new album “Downlord”. From dark Electronica to hard Electro and from Techno to Synthwave this is the kind of album that has a little bit of something for everyone to like, all put together brilliantly. And while at it, please do yourselves a favor and listen to the whole album (when was the last time you sat down to listen to a full LP?) because “Downlord” was made to be heard as an album. An “art” kind of lost in today’s Eletronic music (exceptions apply of course as always).

It’s not like you will find many artists from the current Electronic music scene that have six albums out already and have been so consistent both with their productivity and music anyway, is it?
