Review: VA “Winter Time” Vol.2 http://www.metalectro-music.com/2015/02/27/review-va-winter-time-vol-2/ http://www.metalectro-music.com/2015/02/27/review-va-winter-time-vol-2/#comments Fri, 27 Feb 2015 16:48:15 +0000 http://www.metalectro-music.com/?p=30401 [...]]]> Just a few days ago the So French Records “Winter Time” Vol.02 Compilation was released by French label, including 14 original tracks altogether. A mix of Nu Disco, Electro Rock and well, French Touch with some artists we’ve known and liked for a while now, as well as some new ones. Listening to the whole release a few times and trying to make up our minds about it, we can definitely say that there are some very good tracks on it, which we have picked to feature here today. One of the things we didn’t like as much is the abundance of Nu Disco and “funky”tracks, which seemed to take over the overall release more than we would have personally liked as it seems to have left less room for more power and energy which we thought is missing a bit from the particular compilation. The good thing though is that the few tracks that are moving to a “harder” direction out of “Winter Time” Vol.02 really stood out as they made a significance difference to the release’s overall feel and flow.

One of those tracks and favorite from this compilation, is the collaboration between Soul Machine and Atrey on “Wonderkids”. A mix of rock and funky Electro/French Touch following in the footsteps, style and overall feel of the great “Civilisation” (Justice). Definitely a track that’s a lot of fun to listen to, catchy and very well done that for those familiar with the two artists should be an instant favorite. Personally i can’t help but feeling the track could have been even more effective if a bit more “stripped down” to its core as it did feel a bit overoaded at points, something that in my peronal opinion takes away from the very inspired and catchy hooks instead of working to compliment them. But then again Soul Machine is an artist that has made the more complex and if you like “virtuoso” rock influenced parts a big part of his sound and overall character as an artist as he has repeatedly in the past mixed such parts with electronic music with great success. Either way, kudos to both artists for what is a very nice track and my personal favorite from the release.

Another track that stood out from the “Winter Time” Vol.02 compilation for its non-funky but darker synthwave/80’s electronica sound and atmosphere is Kn1ght‘s “Road Kill”. Kn1ght isn’t a stranger to this blog as we’ve had our eyes and ears on him for a while now and we’re certainly glad to get an opportunity to feature some music by the French artist again after quite a long time indeed. His track “Road Kill” definitely adds another dimension to the whole compilation since it moves to the opposite direction of the funkier Nu Disco majority of tracks and definitely works as a great and more atmospheric break that we really enjoyed as part of the overall realease and on its own as a separate track. If that’s your sound you should definitely check out “Road Kill” and of course more of Kn1ght‘s music. You won’t be disappointed.

Finally, last but not least comes the third (and last) track we have selected to feature from “Winter Time” Vol.02 and some “fresh blood” since it’s just the first time Bastion is being mentioned on Metalectro. The new Parisian artist is one of the freshmen and fresh talents to be featured on the release and we’ve had him under our radars for a few months now. Finally now he gets his debut feature here with his track “Twins”. A dirty French Electro/Touch track that those of you who are fans of the great grandmasters of the sound like Justice or SebastiAn, or even the new generation of artists who stay loyal to the style such as Christine or Dizkodeath are definitely going to love. If there is one thing we would have liked to hear from Bastion in “Twins” is a slightly longer and more developed track since it felt a bit too short and that there was much more to give. But all things considered here’s a young French artist to look out for and we’re sure we’ll be hearing and seeing more from him in the future.

Mr. Electronicvein is a Germany based artist who mostly produces House tracks, although he decided to pick up the intensity and bass levels in his new single “Ghettoblaster”, which is due for release on Audiotonique on the 2nd of March. Don’t expect any hard thrashing Electro banger but rather an Electro House track with a nice flow and energy. Definitely some of the best work we heard by Mr. Electronicvein so far (according to our taste and eardrums at least) which leaves wondering whether the German producer will keep producing more tracks like this in the future. But for the time being, here’s “Ghettoblaster”. Check it out!

The Secret Life of Super Heroes? http://www.metalectro-music.com/2015/02/25/the-secret-life-of-super-heroes/ http://www.metalectro-music.com/2015/02/25/the-secret-life-of-super-heroes/#comments Wed, 25 Feb 2015 18:34:52 +0000 http://www.metalectro-music.com/?p=30357 [...]]]> Usually you won’t see many non-music related posts coming on this space, but every now and then something that is way too cool to ignore comes along which we believe is worth sharing, regardless of being music related or not and this is definitely one of those cases. Just a couple of days ago a hillarious and very creative series of photos by toy photographer Hrjoe Photography emerged on the internet, depicting various super hero action figures (plus Mr. Bean) in unusual and funny situations that you couldn’t have possibly imagined before. By using very highly detailed action figures and the post production needed to add even more realism, Edy Hardjo (Hrjoe Photography), not only succeeded in adding a new dimension to some of the most famous super hero personalities by giving them a “pathology” but also proved that with a creative mind, action figures can become a lot more than just toys. Check out these great photos and visit Edy Hardjo’s work Facebook Page for more of his work and the “behind the scenes of this awesome series.

Following their “Smell My Fingers” and “Death Race” singles and videos, “Guess Who’s Back” is the third official release by the trio. Elisa Do Brasil is also joining their ranks for this new single, which was made available yesterday as a free download. Don’t expect any high speed car chases and the trio breaking any laws like we are used to see them do often in their past videos but a video that follows in their footsteps of their debut “Smell My Fingers”, based on a nice Ballet-Dubstep/Drum N Bass choreography. Definitely one to check out so enjoy the video for some serious moves!

Two Dubstep/Drumstep originals (don’t let the 4 track set below fool you), one of them featuring BBK on vocals and if you like the idea of robots marching to war (against dinosaurs maybe?) then this one will feel like a post-apocalyptic robot war nuclear heaven to your ears. As for those who might have not heard of them before, nothing to worry about as this is the perfect introduction to their sound. Check it out, grab it and join the tribe!

Review: Beatbender “Elevate” LP http://www.metalectro-music.com/2015/02/23/review-beatbender-elevate-lp/ http://www.metalectro-music.com/2015/02/23/review-beatbender-elevate-lp/#comments Mon, 23 Feb 2015 18:11:22 +0000 http://www.metalectro-music.com/?p=30337 [...]]]> Continuing with some new music and a release we here on Metalectro were looking forward to for some time now, especially after the release of the official video for Beatbender‘s “Elevate”. But as of today the duo’s debult album “Elevate” is finally available through Jet Set Trash and let us tell you that it doesn’t fall short of any expectations one might have had from the video, lead singles or enthusiastic and boasting press release. “Elevate” LP comes with 10 originals that move between Electro, Techno and Electronica and having listened to the full release (a few time already) it definitely is an album of high quality and production standards. Dark, heavy, elegant and fresh are the words that come to mind to best describe Beatbender‘s album as a whole. From the first second of the opening and mysterious track, titled “The Strange Story Of Elisa Lam” (those of you familiar with the actual story of Elisa Lam will grasp its beauty on another level), to last one of the chilled Drum & Bass “Outro” this is both a great album and one you should definitely not miss!

Preview: SBCR “SBCR & Friends” Vol. 1 http://www.metalectro-music.com/2015/02/23/preview-sbcr-sbcr-friends-vol-1/ http://www.metalectro-music.com/2015/02/23/preview-sbcr-sbcr-friends-vol-1/#comments Mon, 23 Feb 2015 17:08:58 +0000 http://www.metalectro-music.com/?p=30343 [...]]]> For those following Metalectro on a regular basis, you must (or should be aware) of an exclusive preview/work in proggress track we posted last week for an upcoming SBCR (Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo) & Haezer collaboration. For those who didn’t know SBCR will be the personal project of Sir Bob, while The Bloody Beetroots will remain a rock influenced electronic live act. The truth is that we weren’t able to get much info about this rumoured collaboration between the two when we got in touch with Haezer about it but almost immediately after that a SBCR track went online on Dim Mak‘s Soundcloud, from the upcoming “SBCR & Friends” Vol. 1 compilation which will be out on the 17th of March. The said compilation with feature six collaborations with Razihel, Moon Bounce and Eliza Bee & His Majesty Andre. And this only came to pretty much confirm that Vol.02 of “SBCR & Friends” is probably already in the works, with Haezer being one of the collaborators Sir Bob has personally hand picked. So, here’s the track that went public a few days ago from the upcoming Vol.01, titled “The Grid”, for those curious to get a taste.
