Canadian duo Into The Pale Abyss (aka IPA) are back with a new (free) EP on JST Records. Released on December 26th, the duo’s follow up to “You Can Never Win” is titled “Forbidden Songs” and comes with five new original tracks which further develop Into The Pale Abyss‘s love for dark atmospheres and horror movie influenced concepts. Following in the footsteps of artists like Owl Vision, Aglory and of course Gesaffelstein, their mix of dark Electronica, Electro andTechno is as hypnotic as it is powerful and dynamic, combining slower and “darker” parts with faster paced or more aggressive ones. Surely not the work of a beginner some might think since it takes some musical maturity to find the right balance and make those dynamics work well and they’d be actually right. Continue reading »

Andreas Rund is a name we only came accross very recently (as in about a couple of weeks ago) and istantly fell in love with his deep and dark music. Taking a closer and more careful look of course we realised the Czech Republic producer wasn’t as “new” as we initially thought. Formerly know as Atrey, the artist has gone through a complete transformation (this isn’t just a cheap and quick paintjob) and it’s definitely a very interesing one too. Released via Owl Vision‘s imprint Comorbid Records, “Gemini” is Andreas Rund‘s first EP under his new alias. Three original tracks moving somewhere between dark Electronica, House and even darker Techno with a clean, deep yet heavy sound this is definitely a debut that sets the bar pretty high for Andreas Rund and can be enjoyed both in a club with some early morning “burnout” sessions or at home. We will definitely be keeping an eye and ear out for Andreas Rund in the future but for now we’re just going to leave you check out his debut EP “Gemini”. Continue reading »

Weekend is coming so here’s a playlist to get the party started. And being Friday the 13th too I thought i’d keep it bloody and heavy. We hope you enjoy the selection (incl. tracks by Lektrique, Kroyclub, XKore, Laforcah, Le Castle Vania, Owl Vision, Father, 501, The Glitch Mob, I Think I Broke Something , Christine and Neosignal). You can also check the playlist on Soundcloud (here) although some of the tracks are only available as previews so Spotify is recommended for the full versions.

As for those of you following the blog from the early days you might remember the regular monthly mixtape series we used to have, which will be probably be replaced by regular playlists. As for the reason why the mixtapes won’t be coming back but will be replaced by these playlists, first we feel it’s more directly beneficial for the artists themselves, second obviously it’s less time consuming to only have to make the right track selection instead of having to do a mixtape with it and finally with the stricter copyright infrigement policies that are in place on Soundcloud nowadays it seems more appropriate.

It’s no big secret, at least to those who have been following the more “undergound” Electronic music scene(s), that the rise of the super-commercialised “EDM” machine the last few years has lead into a “stalemate” kind of situation for many fans and artists alike. On one hand artists who are striving to make a living doing the thing they love understandably might want to follow trends and tendencies, while on the other hand the majority of fans (hopefully not those reading this blog though) are simply “consuming” what’s been given to them, therefore creating a high demand for rapid fire productions with more often than not the focus shifting to the quantity of music rather than the quality (and I don’t mean the production quality/standards).
