Argentina’s Donbor might not be one of the biggest or most wellknown Synthwave/Electronica artists out there but then again those of you following this space should be well aware we couldn’t care less how wellknown an artist is or how many followers he can boast about having on their social media. What we’ve always cared about though and has always been the decisive factor on whether we share someone’s music or not is the actual music itself and Donbor has most definitely passed that test a while back with his track “Smoke”. Now, finally “Smoke” has an equally great sibling with “Against The Law” which is the Argentinian artist’s latest original. Characteristic Donbor sound and style that you will instantly recognise if you’ve heard and loved “Smoke” as much as we did. Both tracks are available for free on the artists’ Bandcamp on his “Dead City” EP (available for free alongside 2 more tracks) and we highly recommend snatching both of them. Continue reading »

Frenchman and long time Electro House/Complextro producer M.A.D.E.S has returned with a new split EP, together with Spanish trio Knightbots who debut both on here and on JST Records. “Awakening” is the title of the EP and M.A.D.E.S‘ new original and if the Outrun, Synthwave and 80’s/retro influences were present in the French artist’s previous works this time he has gone full “retro” and left behind the more Electro House/Complextro sound he was previously known for. Great atmosphere, flow and sound on “Awakening” which stays slightly on a more Dark Synth side. The second track on this split EP by Knightbots combines 80’s mood with a hard French Touch/Electro sound (reminiscent of older Justice, sebastiAn and of course Dizkodeath) . A nice overall EP which definitely serves as nice follow up to M.A.D.E.S‘ “Return” EP and taking the French artist towards a new Syntwave sound and nice debut for Knightbots as well so check this one out. the-toxic-avengerThe Toxic Avenger is an artist who shouldn’t need introductions for into the harder and darker side of Electronic music, despite his somewhat less active recent period. The good news is that by the looks of it the Frenchman is making a comeback since he had a new EP out in late October as a follow up to his 2016 “Ξ” LP. “Globe Vol.01” was released on Roy Music with 6 new originals and personally speaking this feels like some of The Toxic Avenger‘s best recent work as the French artist manages to deliver his very own charactertic and atmospheric blend of Techno, Electronica and even Synthwave in a way very few can. Groovy with a touch of dark seems to be the recipe of avenging on “Globe Vol. 1” and just as the title suggests we’ll be looking forward to Vol.02 as well.

occams-laserHailing from Isle Of White (you don’t hear this everyday in the Electronic music scene) Occams Laser is a dark Synthwave machine who keeps producing albums non-stop, so let’s devote some of our time to his music like he has devoted endless hours producing 4 LPs (alongside 3 EPS in case the LPs aren’t enough) during the last year only. Impressive? Well, certainly yes but not as impressive as his music. Following in the footsteps of artists like Carpenter Brut, Perturbator and Gost, Occams Laser‘s music is hard, as it is dark and heavy. Heavily influenced by the sounds of the 80’s his brand of aggressive and theme based “in your face” dark Synthwave will definitely leave you wanting more and “Purgatory” LP (released a month ago) is the perfect introduction to his music. It might have been a while since we heard any new music by M.A.D.E.S but finally the French artist is back with a new EP titled “Return” and well, not only it’s very suitably titled but also a fine comeback for him. Including 3 originals as well as remixes by Irving Force, Hijack Da Bass and Alminia “Return” was out on JST Records on June 20th. Moving somewhere between Electro House, Complextro and Synthwave/Outrun, the 3 originals strike the right balance between heavy basslines and melodic parts (more on the melancholic and dark side rather than on the EDM though) while each of the 3 remixes adds something new to the release. Irving Force‘s rocker definitely focuses more on the 80’s side of things and pushes the original to its limits (just like an 80’s “action packed” movie would), Hijack Da Bass delivers an Electro House hard hitter you’d expect from him while finally the newcomer Alminia adds some flavor and closes the release in afunkier and lighter tone.
