CMT01

Hell-o all and while we are having to deal with the non-musical and very unpleasant issue of the bad unofficial Metaletctro copycat pages that have been in existence for a while without us being aware of it, lets try to get back into normal “healthy” musical matters too. So, for those of you missed the live 2 hour long Q&A and open discussion we held on our Facebook Page on Sunday night with CrazyMT, here it is in the form of a mini-interview as well. So read on and see what this very talented artist from France had to say about his debut EP “Right Way” and music!

01. How has the reaction to your “Right Way” EP been?

I had support from Macrowave, Moody (from Electro News), Laforcah, Gor FLsh, Dizkodeath, Hijack Da Bass, High Dudes, Overnose, just to name a few, and plenty of good feedback! Since the EP came out only a couple of weeks ago it’s really cool. Thanks people!

02. How long did this EP take to make from start to finish, recording-wise?

It took about 9 months, for several reasons that i won’t get into now.

03. Did you have a specific sound/style in mind, prior to entering the studio?

For “Right Way”, I wanted to do a song that would put people in a good mood in the morning. Something that is light, bright and full of good vibes. So I took my keyboard with a piano preset and started to search for simple but non-boring chords. After a few minutes I had the intro, from there on the rest came naturally.

For “Ethereal Existence”, I didn’t have something in particular in mind but I wanted to do a 3/4 rythm signature track. I started by doing the beat you can hear in the final version and once I had something, I started to mess with the Thor (Reason Synthetiser). The chords came almost instantly and things got much simpler from that moment and on.

With “Wild”, I just wanted to do something trashy and well, wild. Not too much though as I wanted to experiment with the harder electro sound. I don’t’ usually go for the really hard “trash” sound so I wanted to give it a try and this was the result.

04. Did you work with anyone else during the process of producing the EP?

I had to ask Linoleum (http://seven11studio.com/) to help me a bit by doing some additional mixing and  mastering on “Right Way” and “Ethereal Existence”. Besides this, everything else is done by me.

05. Are you pleased with the final outcome?

Yes. I couldn’t have reached the level the EP finally had without Linoleum. He gave nuances to the songs I wouldn’t have thought about and in the end that worked out great!

06. If you had to pick 2 as your favorite tracks from the EP these would be:

I can’t choose… It’s my EP, I like all the tracks, they’re completing each other. But if I really had to choose i think it would be “Ethereal Existence”.

07. Is there a message you’re trying to send with your music?

Not all the time, but when I want to send a message, it’s something like:

“A better world can exist. Without hate, etc, etc”

But it will turn into politics if I continue so I will not and try to stay on lighter topics like “tralala, I feel good”. But maybe in the future, I’ll do something much darker and realistic. I have a lot of things to say.

08. Did Jet Set Trash interfere with anything on your “sound” and songs?

Yes they did. In a good way though. They pushed me to my limits, and further. Afterwards, when you look what you’ve done, you’re satisfied. Of course, there are things I don’t agree 100% with but that’s normal I guess. It’s impossible to be perfectly in harmony with someone else when it comes to artistic things and even more to music.

09. Are there any “crazy” behind the scenes anecdotes from this EP’s sessions that you’d like to share?

Sorry to disappoint, but I can’t remember anything crazy… except me being CrazyMT that is. Nope, nothing.

10. How would you describe the sound of your new EP to any potential new fan?

I think it’s warm. If you listen deeply the three originals tell the story of someone waking up in the morning, taking his car to travel a few miles and eventually end up headbanging at a party at night. (Ok, I just made this up, but it actually works!) haha

11. Who are your influences and heroes?

Felix Cartal (basically the man who passed me the virus of electro music), Muse, I quite like Linkin Park too and I listen to a bit of classic music too. For the ones who care, one of my favorites is Rachmaninov’s Prelude Op. 23 No. 5 played by Gilels. And of course Justin Bieber. But I’m more subject to like a song here and there, rather than say “I like this band”.

12. Who would you like to collaborate with?

In a perfect world: Felix Cartal. I’m in perfect harmony with what he does most of the time.
In a real world: Laforcah, oh wait, we did that already. I don’t know, someone close to me so we can work on music in the same room at the same time and not through the internet. For those reading, South East France is the place.

13. If there’s something you’d like to add?

To Jet Set Trash, Metalectro, and every single person that supports me: THANK YOU!!!
