Gor FLsh

Hell-o all and for those of you who missed it, last night we chatted live on our Facebook Page with one of the loudest and most brutal Electro artists out there, if not the most loud and brutal one that is. Gor FLsh is back from the grave after taking a short break from producing as Gor FLsh and had a new EP out too on Jet Set Trash. And if there is one thing you can be certain of, is that this guy has no intention of slowing down or getting any less loud anytime soon. Gor FLsh was available for 2 hours last night and talked to us about his new EP “Undead” in a live chat that was carried out in the form of comments. The 1st of the 2 hours was Metalectro only questions and the 2nd was open discussion and he was availalbe to answer any questions anyone had for him. So here what he said to us, for those who couldn’t catch it live.

How has the reaction to your new EP “Undead” been?

So far so good! I guess people needed a release like it, some real hard thrash. Most other artists became “soft” with time. I didn’t.

How long did this EP take to make from start to finish, production-wise?

After the release of the “WAR” EP I’ve been trying all kinds of sounds and fusions. I released “Acid Drop” for the first LP remix album, which was one of these experimental tracks. Beyond that nothing was really sounding like I wanted, so I took a pause. I wasn’t even sure if it was a pause or if I would just stop writing stuff as Gor FLsh. But after a while, I just needed to do some brutal distorted basslines. So I did. The songs all come out by themselves, it was very “natural”. So the composition itself wasn’t too long, but everything I did before that didn’t work out helped me to make those songs as good as they are. So the whole artistic process was very long.

Did you have a specific sound/style in mind, prior to entering the studio?

After a lot of experimentation, I decided that it needed to stay in that Electro Thrash / Metalectro game. I don’t see Gor FLsh becoming anything else anytime soon. Some good old thrash mixed with sludge, hardcore and Death Metal.

Did you work with anyone else during the process or has all the writting and producing been Gor FLsh 100%?

“Booze And Other Good Habits” started as a live Jam with my friend Donald Gagnon. We were just jamming for fun, him on drums me on synth and I recorded it for fun. The riffs were so powerful I had to make a song out of them. So I reworked everything to make it work as a song, the original jam was like a 30min long stoner rock noisy track without any structure.

In the future, I would like to have guest vocalists more often on my tracks, I think it could take them to the next level.

Are you pleased with the final outcome and sound of “Undead” or would you have done anything differently if you were to do it all over again?

Yes and no, I think the songs are great and I’m happy with the EP overall but I feel like I could have done a better mastering on the remixed tracks and even on my own tracks. But taking tracks from 5 different producers and trying to make an EP that sounds homogenous in the end is pretty damn hard. You have to make concessions on every track if you want all tracks to feel like a whole.

If you had to pick 1 track of the EP as your favorite which one would that be and why?

I couldn’t really do something like that, I think every original and remix on it are great and are they are there for good reasons. I think the tracks complete each other and add enough variety to make the whole experience unique and enjoyable.

Is there any message you’re trying to send with your music?

I’m not trying to send any message really. I just hope people have a good time listening to my music, after all it’s party music!

Did Jet Set Trash interfere with anything on your “sound”, songs and EP in general or were they cool with how everything sounded?

Not at all, on that release, I showed them the songs and they were in. On my first album, they did give me some tips and I guess at the time they were interested but a bit afraid to release my stuff as it was different from what’s commonly known as EDM. But really, JST is one of the best label out there and one of the few that actually end up paying you what they owe you.

Were there any ‘crazy’ behind the scene stories or funny moments while making this EP that you would like to share with us?

Nothing really crazy, but it’s interesting to know. I wrote plenty of ambient music in my pause of Gor FLsh and the lead synth of “Undead” was, in the beginning, a pad I was programming for one of those ambient songs. I added a bit too much distortion to it and I was like, this would rock in Gor FLsh. So I built the whole song around that sound, a synth that was supposed to be a background sound for an ambient song…

How would you describe the sound of your new EP to a potential new fan?

EDM. Electronic Danceable Metal.

Who are your influences and heroes and which artists would you like to collaborate with?

David Guetta, Borgore, Steve Aoki, Afro Jack and Tiesto. Those guys really are my main influences in what not to do.

More seriously, my real hero and influence is Justin K Broadrick. If you don’t know him, make yourself a favor and check out his projects “GOD FLESH” and “jesu”. Those two bands are my all time favorites.

Is there anything else you’d like to add maybe and in a few words, what should we be expecting to listen to in the JST Promo Mix 002 you have mixed and we will be posting here at the end of the 2nd hour?

Thanks to everybody supporting Gor FLsh! I really hope I’ll be able to tour near you guys next year!

As for the mixtape, it contain all my latest and classic songs plus some of my favorite new JST released songs. I hope you’ll enjoy it!
