This week I interviewed Spunker, a name that has been featured on Metalectro numerous times with his tracks. Spunker is from Portugal and he just had his debut EP “Stop The Attack” released a few days ago, on the 09th of October, by Jet Set Trash. So, I thought now would be a good time to get hold of him for an interview… Let’s find out what he has to say about his EP, shows, influences and in general find out what Spunker is all about!

01. Hi Joao! Would you mind introducing yourself?

Hi, i’m a regular Portuguese dude who loves doing regular things like hanging out with friends, travel, drink and making music!

02. You’ve been describing yourself as a beginner, how long have you been doing Spunker and how did it all start for you?

I’ve been producing for maybe less than a year and it all started because I’m in love with music and i felt the need to make my own shit and express myself.

03. How would you describe your music and who have been the main influences would you say that helped you shape the Spunker aggressive style and sound?

My influences come from old rock, punk rock and metal music but my biggest influence was The Bloody Beetroots, Drivepilot, Haezer and F.O.OL.! These names really mean a lot to me!

04. You have been producing some killer original tracks as well as remixes since the very beginning. It’s very hard for me to pick a favorite but I have to ask, where do you draw inspiration from?

I draw inspiration mostly from everyday life and relations between people. Sometimes the beach also helps me but my biggest inspiration is, like I said above, life itself and the people around me.

05. You have already produced more than a few originals as well as remixes, do you prefer working on one more than the other for some reason and if yes why?

I just love making music, remixes or original tracks, it doesn’t really matter! Whatever, they both make me happy and make my day 😉

06. What is your biggest music achievement/highlight so far and what would you say is your most embarrassing moment, in regard to music always…

My biggest achievement…? I don’t really know man, I’ve had some good moments after making good tracks and I’ve had some good moments playing with some artists i love, like Drivepilot, F.O.OL., DeadCATBounce and soon with Wasa3i! It was great to meet all these guys and I love them all!

07. You’ve come up with a few remixes recently, “End Game” and “Mask Off” which were released on Jet Set Trash and Horny Bass respectively (and they both sound great!) and I know you are currently working on a remix for F.O.O.L’s “The Freak”! How did this happen and are you working on any more remixes for 2011?

Yeah, the opportunity to produce a remix for F.O.OL. is really great and exciting! They asked me if I wanted to do it, that’s how it happened, as simple as that! 😉

I already have some originals ready to be released and a remix for DjAntention’s “Drago” Contest and i can tell you it´s going to be madness 😉

08. You also had your debut EP “Stop The Attack” released a few days ago (09th of October) on Jet Set Trash, which apparently made the top 10 in the Juno weekly Electro/House download charts just a few days after its release! What are your thoughts on the EP? Are you happy with how things turned out and should we expect to listen to another EP by Spunker this year?

I’m really happy for that! It’s my first EP and this is only my first year man so i need to work more and more to get even better results! I can’t tell you if I will be releasing another EP this year yet but I can tell you that you have to stay tuned. 😉

09. Apparently you’ve been playing a few shows as well lately as far as I know. Are you enjoying the shows and do you have any more shows booked at the time being? How can someone book you to play a show?

Yeah, i’m finally getting to play a few shows and i must admit it feels good for sure! I mean, who doesn’t love a wild crowd?

For anyone interested in booking me for a show it’s really simple! You just need to send a mail to info.umf@gmail.com

10. Who would you dream of sharing the stage with?

The BloodyBeetroots!!!

11. Best and worst on stage or backstage experiences? Any interesting stories to share with us from the shows you’ve played so far?

Yeah… I’ve puked in a show but i don’t think anyone saw that! 😀

12. Do you prefer working only with computers/sequencers or do you get your hands dirty playing and recording instruments? Do you use samples and what’s your opinion on sampling and copyright?

I don’t really use that many samples, I prefer to create my own samples, presets and then work! I don’t usually record instruments but for some tracks I do record vocals to modify because my voice is not really that good. 😀

13. So, what is music for you and what do you think about the way the music industry is changing?

Music is the color of life and feelings! I think without it there is no one who can deal with this insane everyday routine! About the music industry, i can´t tell you too much, except unfortunately that Commercial Music Is Not Dead. 🙁

14. Any comments about today’s mainstream music? Do you agree with Haezer’s “Commercial Music Is Dead”?

Unfortunately I have to disagree and we can’t do anything about that, just keep our shit together and never sell our soul 😉

15. Do you believe that an electronic music artist can earn his/her living from music nowadays?

Yeah I think they can but nowadays it’s really difficult! Our fucking economy is so deep in a pile of shit bro! The world leaders suck, they just want to earn more and more for themselves and look where we are now…

16. What are you listening to lately? Any tracks/artists you recommend?

I’m in love with Drivepilot’s latest EP and Coyote Kisses – Acid Wolfpack! Really great work on this track, you must have a listen 😉

17. If you could pick another artist to collaborate with, anyone you want, whom would you pick?

Belzebass!!! 😉

18. What do you like doing when not in the studio producing music?

Hang out with friends, watch some movies or series, travel, party hard… i don´t know, regular things i guess…

19. What do you think about the Metalectro blog and the music featured on it and should we expect to listen to any Spunker track(s) for the Metalectro Vol.02 Original Track Competition?

I think it´s a really good blog, helps me a lot! About the compilation… i can´t promise anything but I’ll try 😉

20. Anything else you’d like to mention and we forgot to ask?

Yeah man, thank you so much for all the support that Metalectro has been giving me! And a big thank to everyone who listens and loves Spunker! Big love to the haters too and… stay tuned! New fresh punk coming really soon guys! 😉

This week i interviewed The Destroy Squad, a name that has been featured on the blog a few times with their tracks. The Destroy Squad is from Italy and with a few tracks out there already they’ve been making quite some noise! The last few months especially, they seem to be taking things to the next level with some stunning originals and remixes. The “Squad” is currently working on a few new tracks and I hope to find out what else we should expect by them in the near future. So…

01. Hi guys! Would you mind introducing The Destroy Squad?

The Destroy Squad is the idea born from the collaboration of three boys with a dream to become part of the global electronic music scene. We are Andrea (aka Andrew Wight), Giovanni (aka Basstripper) and Omar (aka Ominox) and we formed The Destroy Squad about a year ago, in 2010, after having remixed  “Harder Better Faster Stronger” by Daft Punk (just for fun). Surprisingly, the track had great success considering that it was made by an emerging group so we had to seriously consider carrying on with that project and here we are today.

02. You grabbed our attention with your “Enter Sandman” remix, a track you came up with almost a year ago. How did you come up with the idea for this remix?

Everything starts from our musical background. We’ve always been passionate about rock and metal music. In fact the night we decided to do the remix, we couldn’t choose whether to remix a track from Metallica or Slipknot. In the end we opted for Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”. It’s obvious, that starting with such a powerful original we had to keep a musical line that does not betray the expectations and that would sound strong even when converted into an electronic song. The results, in terms of number of plays and feedback have really surprised us because we never thought of having such a response from all those people. This was proof that we had a chance to create something that people really liked and gave us the motivation to continue to producing music.

03. What are your main influences/music backgrounds and what or who might have played a role in shaping your sound?

As mentioned above rock and metal are the basis for all of our music and large parts of our sounds come from these two styles and genres. In regard to electronic music, we’ve been obviously influenced by artists such as Bloody Beetroots, Boys Noize, Crookers, Deadmau5, Justice and the more than anything else Daft Punk.

In addition, there have been many people who’ve directly helped us to grow musically, such as the Italian DJ/Producer V@leric, Stereoliez and also Power Francers.

04. You have been doing quite a few remixes as well as originals. Do you prefer writing original tracks or remixing and why?

Certainly we have a tendency to prefer original tracks. The reason is simple. We like to give rein to our imagination and bringing an idea and a track to life from scratch. The remixes can be binding, because in any case you must use pre-existing sample(s) from the original track. Obviously this is not to say that we don’t like to do remixes.

05. There has been a shift in your style & sound between your earlier and your most recent work, with your latest original being a drum n bass track. Any particular reasons why this happened and should we expect you to go back to the electro trash sound?

It is true, there was a change in our musical style, but if you want to be more correct, we should not talk about change, but we should speak about evolution. It’s clear that over time any artist is looking to broaden their musical horizons, even by putting to the test new genres and new experiences. Now our style incorporates many genres and of course, we try to put all our experience in our tracks. In our last track “Time To Drum”, you’ll certainly hear a drum n bass mold but we can assure you that this doesn’t mean we have abandoned our “trash disposition”. We’re just working to make it better and we promise that soon you will listen to new tracks and we’ll come back to the trash mold.

06. You are all involved in other projects as well if I’m not mistaken, would you mind telling us a few things about them?

Currently the only active side project is Logitech. This project was created by Andrew and probably feels closer to ambient and melodic music. It is a very recent project and we all hope that it will grow as The Destroy Squad did.

07. What would you say is your biggest music achievement/highlight and what would be your most embarrassing moment so far?

For the moment we do not know with certainty which was our biggest musical success and achievement as it is too early to judge. Obviously we can’t deny that the track of which we are most fond of is “Brainwashing”, on which we were able to make two EPs.

As for awkward moments, for now (thankfully) we haven’t had any yet and obviously we hope it’ll stay like this. 😉

08. Back to your sounds, I will assume you’ve had your share of rock/metal music in the past. Did you ever play in a rock/metal band and which is your favorite rock/metal album?

Unfortunately none of us has ever had the chance to play in a rock / metal band. We have remained only fans of this kind of music.

Our favorite metal album is definitely IOWA by Slipknot .

09. Do you prefer working only with computers/sequencers or do you get your hands dirty playing and recording instruments? Do you use samples and what’s your opinion on sampling and copyright?

Usually the way we work is to study the rhythms and melodies and then play them on our computer. We don’t feel ready yet to record directly with musical instruments.

About sampling, we firmly believe that creating sounds from scratch is always the best way to produce a track of good quality. It’s obvious that some samples can be copied from other tracks but if it stays within the limits of plagiarism, we don’t think that this is a serious problem.

10. If your studio was on fire what would be the first thing to save?

Surely our external hard drives! They contain all of our projects!

11. What is music for you and what do you think about the way the music industry is changing?

Music is mainly a passion for us and it is the best way to express ideas, concepts and emotions. In the industry the main concern is the profit and if you are not able to sell and make money you probably do a lot of effort to enter the world of music. Only we, young producers, can change this by taking the situation in our hands and protesting loudly.

In fact, we have created the WOO RECORDS CREW which a small independent label that seeks to help young artists in search of opportunities. Besides ourselves there a few more people involved in it, Giovanni Guerrini (owner of the label), Luca Albino (dj/producer also known as Luke dose) and Manuele Nerucci (Disease Between Stars – the band).

12. Do you believe that an electronic music artist can earn his/her living from music nowadays?

We think it is very difficult. Today an artist must be able to offer something bigger than the other artists. We know many artists of great quality and they fully deserve to make money from music but still can’t do it.

13. If you could pick any artist to share the stage with, whom would you pick?

Obviously we’d like to share the stage with artists that we have always regarded as legends, on top of all being The Bloody Beetroots. But we’d love to play with friends as well with who we never had a chance to share a stage, such as Hack The System or Kisbeat!&Chemical.

14. What do you think is the best thing about working with each other and what the worst?

Strangely enough the best and the worst thing about working together is the same, diversity of ideas. This sometimes causes clashes between us, especially when we are producing new songs but in the end, it’s this diversity of ideas that allows us to create something innovative and in its own way unique.

15. You are currently working on some new material, should we expect a release by The Destroy Squad in 2011? Give the readers something to look forward to…

We are currently working on the release of “Brainwashing Pt.2” which will contain 13 remixes and a new original track and will be called “No More Brain”.

The remixers on this EP will be  Analphabeth, Bogusdank, Boylerz, Disease Between Stars, Hack The System, Hate Mosh, Krftkds, Mads, Nobe & Laptop Invaders, Noisepill, Scorned Society, Sevar and Vecho.

We are also working on an album made up of our original tracks, where you can hear sounds ranging from electro music to dubstep and drum and bass but this album will probably come out in 2012.

16. What other plans do you have for 2011? (live shows, releases, remixes, etc)

We recently started the winter season of the discotheque “Bolgia” (located near Bergamo) in which we are part of the project “Medicina: The Electro Terapy” (for more info visit the facebook fanpage of the event)

17. What are you listening to lately? Any tracks/artists you recommend?

We are very impressed by the latest release by Drivepilot and of course don’t miss the latest releases of our friends The “S”!

18. What do you like doing when not in the studio producing music?

We are people who are easily amused. Usually we are spending time together hanging out in some bar or playing soccer.

19. What do you think about the Metalectro blog and the music featured on it and should we expect a track by The Destroy Squad for the Metalectro Vol.02 Competition?

We are very much tied to the Metalectro Blog. Is a long time now that we work with Metalectro and we are very happy to do it. Your blog has always believed in The Destroy Squad and it’s thanks to you that many young artists have managed to get noticed in the music world.

Regarding the competition for Metalectro Vol.02 we are preparing a surprise for you, so stay tuned on The Destroy Squad fanpage for more news!

20. Something else you’d like to mention and we forgot to ask?

We just want to say thanks to Metalectro for giving us the opportunity to tell a few things about us and for letting people know our point of view on music and everything.

A big hug by the entire Squad!!!

This week we interviewed Haezer, a name that has been featured on the blog a few times already and that you all know and love. Haezer, originates from South Africa and has been producing some killer tunes for a while now but I’m sure no further introductions are needed in his case. He is also one of the two guest judges of the Metalectro Vol.02 competition and we are certainly very happy and proud to have him on board for this. With “I.IO.II” and a few live dates being on the way, I thought this would be a good time to try to get hold of him and find out what else he is planning for the near future. So…

This week i interviewed Indiscreet, a name that has been featured on the blog a few times with his tracks. Indiscreet is from Lyon, France and with a few tracks out there already and his EP “The I” he’s been drawing a lot of attention on him! So, I am hoping and will try to find out what’s next in line for Indiscreet and what else we should expect by him in the near future.

01. Hi Nathan! Would you mind introducing Indiscreet to the readers and how would you describe your music?

Hi Metalectro! First of all, thanks for giving me some of your time for this interview. I’m 24, based in Lyon and Indiscreet is an electro project that i’ve been carrying out on my own for the past 3 years. With time, this project has become more and more focused and now i really know where i’m heading. I want to create a whole world, not only music. In my book, when music lies within a more global scope of aesthetics, more value is added to music, semantically and emotionally. It’s quite hard for me to describe my music because i’m far too immersed in my personal impressions. I think it probably reflects the music i love. Something you can really dance to but most of all complex and intellectual enough to listen to at home or in the underground. Basically, music for the body and soul!

02. You grabbed our attention with your track “Reveries Past” (feat. Kid A) from your EP “The I”. A track that stands out in my opinion and a personal favorite. How did you come up with the idea for this track?

I’m surprised by the impact of this track. Before the EP came out, i thought people would’ve focused more on “Vanish”. I guess people prefer Kid A’s soft voice to mine (laughs)! In fact, i had a real clear idea about this track thanks to the scenario of the EP. “The I” is a story told on a reverse time-scale. The last track of the album, “Reveries Past”, is the narrative basis on which the story is told. I wanted a girl to sing to evoke the gentleness of a past world and nostalgia but a violent and fatal approach was also necessary for this track. I started to work on the instrumental and then I met Kid A in 2009, during the Nuits Sonores in Lyon. She instantly understood what I was aiming at and her voice is simply amazing. As a matter of fact, i stongly advise you to check out Agoria‘s last album, featuring two tracks with Kid A and Spitzer’s EP.

03. What are your influences/music background and what or who might have played a role in shaping your sound?

I have absolutely no musical background but I do have many influences though. Progressive rock (like Pink Floyd) nourished my youth and I only discovered electro much later in high-school, through trip-hop. At that point in my life, I listened a lot to Ninja Tunes (especially Bonobo) or even RJD2 and Dj Shadow. I wasn’t much into the French Touch at the beginning of the millennium and didn’t really know much about it (I grew up in the mountains with a bad quality internet connection!). I moved to Lyon in 2004 and that’s when music slapped me round the face! It was like I discovered everything in one go. But what i did discover was that you could make clever dancefloor music. The stuff i created at the time moved towards this bpm, this exhilarating energy which in my book conveys glee. Someone also counted a lot for me, an older friend who introduced me to CAMat the very beginning. Without him, I wouldn’t be where I am now. Funnily enough, he’s now the one who asks me for advice!

04. Do you prefer writing original tracks or remixing and why?

Well, because i like doing both so much, that’s a question I often ask myself. I do enjoy remixing but what i really love doing is composing. I guess i like composing so much that i’d rather devote myself to the original tracks, as it’s total freedom. Nevertheless, remixes are shaping because of the constraints they involve and sometimes i can be more inspired by a remix.

05. Apparently you have been working a lot with vocals and have had a few collaborations already. If you could pick anyone, whom would you pick for your next collaboration?

Feist. I love that chick!

06. Are you involved in any other projects or do you produce music only as Indiscreet?

I’ll soon be involved in new projects but nothing official for the moment. Still, i do produce music on top of Indiscreet, in different styles, instrumental and directed at sound illustrations. I really enjoy working on music made for visual image.

07. What would you say is your biggest music achievement/highlight so far?

“The I”. I devoted my soul to that.

08. Back to your sounds, I will assume here that you’ve had your share of rock/metal music in the past. Did you ever play in a rock/metal band or have you always been into electronic music?

No, not really. I went through a very short metal period, I didn’t listen too much of it. I listened more to indie, garage and punk rock. Like I said earlier on, I have no real musical background and never played any instruments. Electronic music was a wonderful form of expression for me.

09. Do you prefer working only with computers/sequencers or do you get your hands dirty playing and recording instruments? Do you use samples and what’s your opinion on sampling and copyright?

Always the same problem! Had I known how to play an instrument, I would have really gone for it! So now I just allocate my time to refining the art of CAM. Sometimes I do, however, record musicians. The only instrument I play with is my voice. For the time being, I only work with a laptop and a sequencer, but my dream is to work with analog equipment, just as much for the synthesizers as well as for signal treatment. At the moment, I do everything myself, mixing and mastering. I do my best but I’m really low on equipment. With regards to samples, I clearly distinguish one shot samples and track sampling. I don’t sample tracks but I often use snares and kicks to develop my rhythmic. In the case of copy left samples, I sometimes do work with sample banks and samplers such as Kontakt. With regards to the other stuff like inserting the sample of a whole track as a base or a leitmotiv of my own track, well I don’t do that but I’d have no qualms in doing so. I think it can be part of the creative process. Recycling is a common thing in art, as found in a remix or bootleg. The public is big enough to appreciate genuine creation and differentiate it from plagiarism. I think guys, who find Justice and Daft Punk lame because they use samples, don’t understand anything (or they’re just jealous!).

10. If your studio was on fire what would be the first thing to save?

My computer, without any doubt. I have everything in it, my old and new tracks. And if i still have my computer, I can make money playing live and go out and buy new equipment.

11. What is music for you and what do you think about the way the music industry is changing?

It doesn’t scare me because music isn’t just a past time for me. It’s always been essential for man, whatever the era, whatever the culture. Music will never die and those who produce it will always be appreciated. It will always make money because people need music.

12. Do you believe that an electronic music artist can earn his/her living from music nowadays?

Of course! And that’s what I intend on doing. Earlier on, I spoke about all the different ways of producing electronic music and how to pull through (productions, arrangements, sound design, etc).

13. You’ve been playing quite a few live shows with some big names as well. What would you say is the most memorable on-stage/backstage moment and why? Whom would you dream of sharing the stage with?

The most memorable one was no doubt the Nuits Sonores, facing 5000 people. The soundsystem was so intense that my laptop jumped at each kick. I’d love to do a gig with Siriusmo, the guy’s so mysterious…

14. What are you currently working on? Should we expect to listen to an Indiscreet release during 2011? Give the readers something to look forward to…

I’ve just finished a remix for DW which will be released soon. I’m also working on an opus made of remixes of “Reveries Past”, starring Redial, and also on an auto-remix but i don’t really want to reveal any more about that. Just bear in mind it’s going to be a killer!

15. Are you signed on any label at the moment?

My first EP was released by Electrolarge.

16. What other plans do you have for 2011? (live shows, releases, remixes etc)

For the time being, I’m going to finish the work on “The I”, especially on the comic and if we find enough time and money hopefully turn it into a video clip. I have very clear ideas on that project and it’s really frustrating not to be able to put them into practice. I should be doing a tour with Redial towards the end of the year. He’s also given me the opportunity to work on a track with him.

17. What are you listening to lately? Any tracks/artists you recommend?

I go through different phases and right now it’s Siriusmo.

18. What do you like to do when not in the studio producing music?

I have a full time job which doesn’t leave me with a lot of free time during the week. But when I do have some I enjoy life, go to the cinema, out to eat and travel.

19. What do you think about the Metalectro blog and the music featured on it?

It’s a great blog where i can discover interesting stuff. Unlike other blogs which always  go on about the same artists.

20. Something else you’d like to mention and we forgot to ask?

I went through a pretty tough year and had little time to allocate to music. But this is all going to change after September, so listen out, I could be more productive than ever!

Sep 132011

This week i interviewed Cosmic Sand, a name that has been featured on Metalectro numerous times with his tracks. Cosmic Sand is from Portugal and he recently had his “Back To The Moonlight Sonata” EP released, on the 20th of August by Jet Set Trash. So, I thought it would be a good time to get hold of him for an interview… Let’s find out what he has to say about his EP, influences and plans for the near future…

01. Hi Jose! Would you mind introducing yourself?

Well, my real name is José Pedro Barbosa, an 18 year old guy who lives in Porto (Portugal) and loves producing music! I guess there’s not much to add since the next questions will cover up pretty much everything about me or Cosmic Sand.

02. How long have you been doing Cosmic Sand and how would you describe your music?

I started Cosmic Sand about 1 year and 2 months ago. Cosmic Sand is all about the classical aspects of music put together with the trash electronic sound that can easily be found nowadays. Some people think that it is impossible to combine Electro with Orchestral stuff. Well, I really like all those baroque orchestral stuff as much as I like all this Electro Trash basslines, so I decided to combine everything I love about music and see what it would sound like.

03. Apparently I just found out you are also involved in a side project, Monolift. Would you mind telling us a few things about it and what should the readers who will check it out expect to listen?

Monolift is a side project that me and my brother created and it’s not connected really with Cosmic Sand. Monolift is about experimenting with sounds and effects, some people might find it connected with a recent sub genre called “Witch House, Drag or even Screw Gaze” but we label our music as OKKVLT (occult) because that’s how we feel it sounds like and we don’t like to label it on a certain genre. Monolift is a way for us to express ourselves through sound, a way of feeling completely free to do whatever we want with sounds and not fixing our music to a certain genre. We use creativity as our weapon. If you like some new experimental stuff then you should check out our official Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/MONOLIFT

We are going to release our first EP at the 15th of September and it will be free to download.

04. Besides Cosmic Sand and Monolift, you also express your creativity in other ways. You’ve been doing quite a few designs and cover art, any that the readers might have seen or know of?

Yeah, I’m doing a degree at Communication Design and I’ve already designed Cover art’s and Logos for artists such as Metalectro, F2U Dj’s, Skanek, the Dubstep duo Right Click and of course Cosmic Sand and Monolift. I’ve got loads of requests but time isn’t something that waits and since University is a priority right now, I’m not accepting design requests for the time being. You can check out my design work at http://www.facebook.com/project2992

05. You are a big fan of classical music obviously, judging from your “Back To The Moonlight Sonata” re-creation and by listening to your tracks in general. Who and what would you say are your biggest influences that helped you shape the Cosmic Sand sound and style?

From the classical side, Bach, Rachmaninoff and Beethoven were my biggest influences. From the Electronic scene, Justice, DATA, Sebastian, Dj Mehdi, Busy P, Mr. Oizo and Huoratron are the ones that brought me into this style and inspired me to create this project.

06. What is your biggest music achievement/highlight so far and what would you say is your most embarrassing moment? In regard to music always…

I would have to say that so far my biggest achievement in regard to music was getting my tracks released!

I’ve never had an embarrassing moment really as Cosmic Sand… Probably because it’s a recent project or maybe because Cosmic Sand just can’t get embarrassed… hehehehe.

07. You are working on a few new tracks at the moment, some originals and some remixes as far as I know. Would you mind telling us what they are and when should we expect to listen to them?

Yeah, I’m making a remix for GorFLsh – Grindclub, and I’m also preparing a new EP! Get ready because some massive tunes are on the way!

08. On the new EP you are collaborating with A Girl & A Gun if I’m correct? Would you mind sharing some more info about it with us? What’s the title and how many tracks will be on it?

I spoke with Sophia (A Girl and A Gun) who by the way is just awesome and she loved the idea for the track, so she decided to help me out by adding some vocals! The track is still work in progress and I can’t give away any more details yet…

It will be 1 of the 2 originals on EP, titled “From The Other Side”. The remixers are still to be confirmed so I can’t release much info on this either but you will soon know more about it!

09. Will there be any remixes on it and if yes, can you tell us by whom?

As I said on the previous question, there are still remixers to be confirmed… 3 of them have already confirmed so far but I can guarantee you’ll know them well! hehehe

10. You have developed a very specific sound and style, in your most recent productions at least. Many string sections and orchestral parts mixed with the electro trash sound. Is the new EP going to be based upon this recipe as well or should we expect any surprises?

One of my originals is like an Orchestral Symphony pushed to the limits, where you feel all those Epic instruments and phat Trash basslines like in no other track I’ve done so far. The one I’m working with A Girl And A Gun has got more of a trash distortion feeling and still gets all the melodic basslines plus vocals from AGAG that will make you guys drop unconscious!

11. Besides A Girl & A Gun, who else would you dream about working with?

Well, I’m going to collaborate with some great artists in the upcoming EP and you will soon get to know who they are.

I’d definitely dream to work with Justice, Danger, Data and much more… but who wouldn’t?

11. Do you prefer working only with computers/sequencers or do you get your hands dirty playing and recording instruments? Do you use samples and what’s your opinion on sampling and copyright?

I actually use a midi keyboard and my productions are almost all made with virtual synths. At the end of this year I’ll be finally getting some new live performance hardware and some massive studio synths.

I’m not much of a sampling/micro sampling producer but I think it’s great to see artists use something that is externally recorded and make something creative with it.

12. So, what is music for you and what do you think about the way the music industry is changing?

Music is a way of life. The way people react to different situations is reflected by the music they listen to.

So what I mean is that music gives us motivation and stimulates our brain being almost like a vicious drug that you will never be able to get away from.

About the music industry, I actually haven’t got words to describe it. Music industry only works for major labels that release mainstream music for the masses. This generation is the one that will turn music industry completely upside down, making plastic music sell fast and what is really good getting to fade away in history. People nowadays, mostly teenagers, should be listening to historical composers and real artists/ producers and not all this fake music singers and producers. The music industry is not what it used to be anymore.

13. Any comments about today’s mainstream music? Do you agree with Haezer’s “Commercial Music Is Dead”?

I wish HAEZER was right but there will always be mainstream and there will always be people trying to hear what they think it’s cool to hear and not what they like.

14. Do you believe that an electronic music artist can earn his/her living from music nowadays?

Known artists nowadays can probably live from gigs and touring but unless they are like Justice or Daft Punk they cannot live just from sales (EP’s, Albums, Merch, etc).

15. You did also play in one or two festivals this summer if I’m not mistaken, do you have any shows coming up anytime soon and how can someone book you for one?

Yeah, I will be probably playing this October with WASA3I here in Portugal.

Promoters can use this email info.umf@gmail.com” (UMF Agency) to book me for Portugal. For Bookings outside Portugal I can be reached at this email: thecosmicsand@gmail.com

16. What are you listening to lately? Any tracks/artists you recommend?

Yeah sure, these are some of the tunes I’ve been listening to lately: X-†!NΛ /// U L0S† MΞ (BLΛCK RΛ!NB0VV VERSION), Russ Chimes – Targa, Justice – Audio, Video, Disco, FOOL – Krieg

17. What do you like doing when not in the studio producing music?

I really like surfing (Body Board) and aggressive inline. In my spare time I also like to think of what I’ll produce next… hehehe

18. What do you think about the Metalectro blog and the music featured on it? Should we expect to listen to any track(s) from you for the competition we launched last week?

Metalectro was the first international blog I started following! Hell yeah, it’s not only a blog that promotes artists by promoting their music but what I really enjoy is the unique description that you give to each track you promote. It’s simply awesome!

If I get enough time I’ll sure give it a try in that competition!

19. Anything else you’d like to mention and we forgot to ask?

Just keep on listening to my music. Some great news are on the way soon and to celebrate my 500 “Likes”, i’ll be upgrading my Soundcloud page so stay tuned!

I also want to thank Metalectro for all the support!
