Hell-o all and here we are with yet one more interview and Metalectro Special! This time we managed to get hold of The Boomzers, a name that has been featured here a more few times with their tracks. With a number of great tracks and EPs out there already, a new Free EP out not very long ago and a lot more new material on the way surely, let’s see what The Boomzers themselves have to say about their past, present and future and what some of their favorite songs that they wanted to share with all their fans and readers are!

01. Hi guys! Would you mind introducing The Boomzers?

Hi there! We are Stu & Brian, 2 Italian producers that love to make hard electro music!

02. You grabbed our attention a very long time ago with your remix of Fckn Crew’s “Discoke”, a pretty old but still pretty banging remix. How did you come up with the idea for this remix and what reactions did you get from your fans back then?

Fckn Crew – Discoke (The Boomzers Remix)

“Discoke” was one of our first rmx, we were FCKN Crew fans and when we saw the remix contest we immediately started to work on it! The result was a very solid track and we won the contest at 1st place, receiving a lot of plays and love. For sure this track helped us a lot in the beginning of our project and we still play it, it’s still hot and the crowd is still going crazy with it!

03. Speaking about your fans, did you expect The Boomzers to grow as much when you started this project and how did it all start for you anyway?

We were friends before the music project, but we started it with really serious goals and high expectations. We always hope to spread our music as much as possible! We became known in the international scene and that was a dream for us, playing in many countries and meeting a lot of beautiful people. Even if we still have a really really long way unti we can say “we did it”!

04. Being from Italy and having travelled around due to your shows, would you say that Italy is the European hotspot for the “hard electro” scene with so many local artists (You, Cyberpunkers, The “S”, Pelussje, Gigi Barocco, Belzebass to name a few) and the place to be? If not, where would you rather live and be in general?

Yes, Italian hard electro producers are probably the best for this genre Unfortunately Italy isn’t the best place for this music because the average listener is “lagging” in electro music culture, so the most important labels and clubs are foreign! So here you need to look outside before, at least at the beginning! Maybe USA offers an easier life for djs/producers when you reach a high level, with a more developed industry around this business. Anyway things are changing in Europe too now!

05. Back to your sounds, you have been doing quite a few remixes for many different artists (F.O.O.L, Far Too Loud, Cyberpunkers, Drivepilot, You Killing Me, Joachim Garraud and the list goes on) as well as original tracks. Do you prefer writing originals or remixing and why?

Joachim Garraud feat. A Girl And Gun – Ca$h (The Boomzers Remix)

We really love doing both, it was really amazing to make originals like “WTF”, “We Are Back” or “Digital Drug” (to name a few) as it was amazing remixing those big artists as well. Another thing we really love is to listen to our originals being remixed, you can really see the feelings of someone else on your track!

06. Are you involved in any other projects/labels, etc?

For the time being no, not nearly enough free time! =)

07. What would you say is your biggest music achievement/highlight so far and what your worst/most embarrassing moment?

It’s hard to choose an achievement, we had Top 10 entries on Beatport, worked with top artists and releases on big labels like Dim Mak and a lot of big shows in many countries! Anyway we think that the biggest thing is that many people around the world are enjoying what we are doing, that’s the REAL thing!

The worst moment was probably when in a show, in front of a big crowd, the guy that was playing before us pressed eject on our CDJ. Then the classic ashamed silence followed… =D

08. What are your influences/music backgrounds? Have you ever played in a rock/metal/punk band?

We are music lovers since childhood listening to a lot of music and many genres. Rock, pop, hardstyle, Italian disco, etc. We never played in a rock band but we love rock bands! Can’t say we really hate any genre, every genre has some killer tracks!

09. In your latest official EP “Digital Drug” we saw/heard you collaborating with Tom Deluxx on the track “Jokertrip”. Are you happy with the results of this collaboration and how the track sounded and which artist(s) would you like to collaborate with on a new track if you could?

The Boomzers & Tom Deluxx – Jokertrip

It was great to work with Tom, he’s a great guy! We played togheter on a show and we decided to make a featuring. “Jokertrip” is a really mental/aggressive track, exactly as we wanted it to be!

10. How long do you know each other and what’s the best and worst thing about working together?

We know each other for more than 10 years. The best thing is that we usually are on the same page so that makes everything easier. Probably the worst thing is when we discuss about some very little details of a track, many times things that most likely nobody cares about!

11. Do you prefer working only with computers/sequencers or do you get your hands dirty playing and recording instruments? Do you use samples and what’s your opinion on sampling and copyright?

We work just with pc, vst and a midi keyboard! We are not against samples, all depends how you use them. There are a lot of producer that sample a lot of other tracks and the result is awesome! It’s just a way to produce music and it was the beginning for many music genres. It’s the final product that really matters!

12. What is music for you and what do you think about the way the music industry is changing? Do you agree with Haezer’s “Commercial Music Is Dead”?

Music is one of the most important thing for us and it still would be even if we were not producing! It is like a basic human need or like a universal language! Anyone can understand music and the feelings it expresses!

In these years all the electro subgenres are emerging, mixing one with all the others. It is an important evolution but we don’t think that “commercial music is dead”. It just transformed! One of the things that we really love in how the music industry has changed is that now there is a lot of very good music you can get for free and this is amazing for the listeners!

It’s really hard to know where the music industry is going now that the web is so powerful. For sure it is a plus for whoever wants to get his music heard as it’s not a secret that producers are earning a lot more from gigs than from tracks sales!

13. Do you believe that an electronic music artist can earn his/her living from music nowadays?

That’s for sure and some are also gettting really rich. But, returning to the previous question, almost noone in the electro scene gains a lot from music sales! It’s the ones that have massive support on their tracks who gain a lot of money through playing gigs!

14. You’ve been playing more than a few live shows, what would you say is your favorite place/city to play? Any interesting onstage/backstage stories to share with us and who would you dream of sharing the stage with?

The best city where we played was probably Budapest, we played there 2 times and the crowd was monstrous both! In Poznan (Poland), in an underground club, we were totally absorbed by the crowd… all the people were jumping like crazy and moving the console table till it literally fell to the ground! xD

We would love to play a back 2 back show with The Bloody Beetroots… no doubt! =D

15. The last few months there has been a shift from many artists towards the Moombahcore, Trap and Drumstep style/sound. What’s your opinion on this shift and should we expect to hear The Boomzers trying their luck on any of these styles?

Think that trap and mombahcore doesn’t fit very well with our style, anyway we are trying new things in the recent months, but our soul will be the same even of we have a try on different genres!

16. You just had a free EP out a few days ago titled “Thunder”. Are you planning another EP release in 2013 and if yes would you mind giving us some info about it? Give us some news and the readers something to look forward to…

We have a lot of tracks that will be out this year, the official EP is coming in September and then another one probably in November! Also new videos are coming too! You’ll have a lot of new Boomzers stuff to bounce with!

17. What’s your (honest) opinion about Daft Punk’s new album?

We expected a different concept… it could have been better but it’s just our peronal taste!

18. What would be the first thing to save if your studio was on fire?

The backup HD… it’s like an arm for a producer! =)

19. How do you like spending your time when not in the studio? Do you spend time together out of the studio too and what’s a regular day in the life of The Boomzers like?

Now we both have girlfriends and many other things to do so our days are really full… almost no time to sleep sometimes… ahahah! We’ve been friends since when we were kids so we always had great days togheter!

20. What do you think about the Metalectro blog and the music featured on it and anything else you’d like to mention and we forgot to ask?

It’s a really nice blog, we discovered a lot of nice music here and it’s supporting us from the beginning, from when we were nobody! So real love from us! =D
